About Kimolos Island
Kimolos,
is a nice, small unspoiled quiet island. It is believed that took its name after chalk
(chalk=Kimolia in Greek), which it once produced. Kimolos was known in antiquity for the
chalk, used as detergent and in medinical baths (fuller's earth). But according to a
legend it took its name after its first inhabitant, Kimolos husband of Side.
Kimolos is another jewel of an island in the
Cycladic complex. Primarily a mountainous area, it offers the visitor quiet, relaxing
holidays. The capital of the island, Hora, is built around an older village, where the remains of impressive mansions speak of a more
prosperous past. An hour away, on foot or by boat, visitors will be impressed by the cave of Vromolimni, while at Psathi they can have their pick of sandy beaches.
Bon Voyage
