About Kea
Island
This exceptionally
picturesque island lies close to the south-east coast of Attica and is the closest of the
Cyclades to Athens. Kea ( Tzia ) has a land mass of 131 sq. km and a coastline of 81 km.
The population is about 2.000 habitants. Only 12 nautical miles from Cape Sounion, Kea is
a mountainous island with small valleys and bays with sandy beaches. It is not a typical
Cycladic island being very green with plenty of water and fruit bearing trees.
Due to its proximity to Athens, Kea is a popular destination to Athenians so is difficult
to find accommodation on weekends unless booked well in advance.
The mountain masses, which are encountered in most of the Cyclades, are broken up by small
valleys sparsely planted with vines and fruit-trees and run right down to the sea, opening
out into pretty little bays. On the western side of the island is Agios Nikolaos bay, and
deep within it the port of Korissia, which is considered to be one of the safest natural
harbors in the Mediterranean.
Bon Voyage,
Helena
